Mr. Smith is an award-winning author, poet, illustrator and photographer. His coming-of-age young adult novel, Chameleon, has been lauded for its realistic portrayal of gang life in the inner city. He received the Coretta Scott King Award for his book Twelve Rounds To Glory: The Story of Muhammad Ali and for his illustration of My People, a picture book based on the poem by Langston Hughes. His poems celebrating basketball in Hoop Kings and Hoop Queens have garnered wide praise. In addition to all these accolades, Mr. Smith recently participated in American Ninja Warrior.
