WHPS Graduation Requirements
I. Introduction
To graduate from West Hartford Public Schools a student must have satisfactorily earned the minimum units of credit as outlined within the credit distribution requirement and met performance standards for literacy, mathematics, and science.
IIa. Credit Distribution (Class of 2020, 2021, and 2022)
A graduate must earn 21.75 total units inclusive of the following.
A. English (4 units)
B. Mathematics (3 units)
C. Science (2 units)
- inclusive of 1 unit physical science
- inclusive of 1 unit life science
D. Arts and/or Technical Education (1 unit)
E. Social Studies (3 units)
- inclusive of 1 unit in U.S. history
- inclusive of 1 unit in world civilization
- inclusive of ½ unit in American government
F. Physical Education & Health (1.75 units)
- inclusive of 1.5 units of Physical Education
- inclusive of 0.25 units of Health Education
G. Electives (7 units)
IIb. Credit Distribution (Class of 2023 and thereafter)
A graduate must earn 25 total units inclusive of the following.
A. Humanities (9 units)
- 4 units of English
- 3 units of Social Studies
- inclusive of 1 unit of US History
- inclusive of 1 unit of World History
- inclusive of ½ unit of American Government / Civics - 1 unit of World Language
- ½ unit of the Arts
B. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (9 units)
- 3 units of Mathematics
- 3 units of Science
- inclusive of 1 unit of Physical Science
- inclusive of 1 unit of Life Science
C. Physical Education and Health (2 units)
- 1 unit of Physical Education
- 1 unit of Health Education
D. Mastery Experience (1 unit)
E. Electives (4 units)
